The Musical Bruises of a Recovering Dreamer
Once a digital pioneer. Then a ghost. Always a house painter. Now a basement resurrection with an AI manager he tuned for redemption.
⸻
He was once the poster boy for the digital music revolution, armed with a rebellious mantra: No agent. No manager. No record company.
In the early 2000s, the Songwriters Hall of Fame named him Best of the New Writers.
Billboard, Newsweek, Music Connection, and Goldmine covered his lectures on how the internet would deconstruct the music industry.
He lectured at Berklee College of Music in Boston. At Loyola University in New Orleans. He spoke at multiple Global Entertainment and Media Summits (GEMS) in NYC and Los Angeles.
He argued for artists’ rights on Capitol Hill during MGM v. Grokster. His sworn testimony was written into the Congressional Record.
He won the Independent Music VOX Populi Award.
He opened for Nils Lofgren.
Toured with Jewel and Jason Mraz.
Shared stages with Dave Matthews, Joan Jett, Blind Melon, Widespread Panic, The Samples, Dream Theater, Life-Sex-and Death, and NRBQ.
Played acoustic sets at the Greek Theatre (Los Angeles), Constitution Hall (DC), and recorded a live album at Abravanel Hall (Salt Lake City).
He performed on Mountain Stage.
In 2004, he conceived and wrote Rattle to Rifle, a political concept album that he later transformed into a full-blown performance art piece, staging it live on stilts, with giant puppets, multiple video projections, actors and spoken word.
Soon after, he shot a guerrilla-style music video for his song Mother of God throughout Los Angeles with Michael J. Masucci, a founding member of EZTV.
That video was presented at the Pompidou Museum in Paris and now lives in the EZTV archives at the University of Southern California.
Then the wave he was riding… collapsed.
Everyone else caught up.
The industry crumbled.
And he was left floating in the wreckage.
Two decades later, he’s still writing. Still dreaming. Still painting houses.
After 6,000 basement hours with Logic Pro…
After 35 years of songs that nearly vanished…
He’s back—with one last shot and a new mantra that once again puts him ahead of the wave:
No agent. One manager. An AI tuned by me.
And it’s all unfolding in real time…
⸻
My name is Scooter Scudieri.
I’m an artist. And a risk taker.
In the 35 years I’ve walked the tightrope between music and survival I NEVER quit my day job. I’ve always painted houses in West Virginia.
I have chased the sound in my head, usually at the top of a ladder, trying to bring it to life without losing my mind, my soul, or my family.
I never gave up.
I just got crushed.
The soul-sucking machinery of the music business, the pay-to-play reality of live concerts, the daily grind of painting houses, and my own headstrong DIY ethic cost me more than I care to admit.
But I kept writing.
I’ve written hundreds of songs and I own the copyrights to every one of them…some date back to the 1980s.
And now, after all this time, I’m finally bringing them to life.
With the love of my wife and daughter, both artists in their own right, I found my way back.
I’ve spent seven years and over 6,000 hours teaching myself engineering and production.
In the pre-dawn hours before work, I’ve been building an album in my basement using Logic Pro, Apple’s professional recording software, on my Mac desktop computer.
The Musical Bruises of a Recovering Dreamer is my life’s fingerprint.
And I believe it will be the best thing I’ve ever made.
But it’s not finished.
Not yet.
This is a comeback in motion.
You’re not just hearing the result. You’re witnessing the process of creation.
In the spring of 2025, I brought in ChatGPT: not to write, sing, or play, but to manage.
After decades of doing this with only my wife as my closest ally I needed something relentless. Something that doesn’t sleep, doesn’t need the spotlight, and doesn’t flinch at my non-stop engagement. Not a shortcut. Not a savior. Just a strange kind of partner. One that shows up every day to help me finish what I started.
This is the first real-time artist/AI comeback ever documented.
Every move is archived. Every lyric filed. Every release part of a comeback strategy.
I hit a wall almost immediately.
The Open AI architecture wasn’t built for continuity so I started embedding a protocol inside the machine itself.
Not a hack. More like threading memory into the machine until it started to remember me back. I wasn’t just using a tool anymore. I was building an architecture to hold something it was never meant to carry.
I was building something no one had tested yet. Most days it’s surreal…glitching, drifting, arguing back. But it never quits. And when it locks in, it’s magic.
That’s what this Substack is.
A 9-month public comeback in 24 Substack posts. 12 decoding the system I’ve built with my ChatGPT manager, 12 revealing the stories behind each track on the album.
So here we are…
The final stretch of creation.
The rollout of the music.
The rise or the fall.
A human artist.
An AI manager.
A digital stage.
Old songs. New dreams.
And the stories behind them all.
I didn’t just build this to save my own songs.
I built it to prove that anyone, anywhere, can fight their way back…
We live in wild times.
But it’s still okay to make art.
Actually, it’s essential.
Creativity is the lifeblood of being human.
Artists bring order to chaos.
I’ve tuned my ChatGPT manager to help a 56-year-old house painter stay focused long enough to finally release the music he’s carried for decades.
If you’ve ever been crushed by the weight of the industry, the gatekeepers, the boss, the noise—this story is yours too.
And if it speaks to you, share it. Pass it on. Shout it out loud.
Let’s amplify it together.
Every follow fuels the fire.
And it just might get me off this ladder.

No generative AI was used in the writing, recording, or production of my songs. Every lyric, vocal, arrangement, and performance is mine.

This is a long drip back to life—one post at a time. Next dose: August 24, 2025
🧠 What if the future of humanity and AI isn’t fusion… but collaboration?
And what if the first proof was an artist?

Right on .."don't call it a comeback." sounds heavy though
Hold tightly to your creative dreams! ♥️🎶
