🎧 💿 Track 10: “Super Calloused Fragile Misfit”
“This is the tenth song from my upcoming album. What you’ll hear are mastered clips of unfinished work—stepping stones toward the release of The Musical Bruises of a Recovering Dreamer on March 31, 2026”
(I wrap my skull in headphones. For me, it’s emotional triage. Listen below. Download disabled.)

We grow up, but our wounds do not.
And we build entire worlds out of them.
I’m not the only one who stayed a kid longer than the world expected.
Most of us did.
We grew up on make-believe and neighborhood adventures and that wide-open possibility that childhood promises. Then adulthood arrived, but not as an upgrade, more like a kind of inheritance of everyone else’s unfinished business.
You realize pretty quickly that adults are not wiser versions of the children they once were. They are the same scared kids, just taller, tired, and carrying more paperwork.
And once you notice that, everything starts to click. Societies. Conflicts. Governments. All of it is built by people who were shaped or misshaped before they ever knew what was happening to them.
Childhood dysfunction scaled to a national level.
That is the real nucleus of Super Calloused Fragile Misfit.
Not “my story.”
Our story. Humanity’s story. The systems we build out of emotional debris.
Where the title actually came from
It started as a joke. A warped Mary Poppins twist.
Super calloused. Fragile. Misfit.
But jokes have a way of revealing truths.
What struck me wasn’t the humor.
It was the accuracy.
Because everyone I’ve ever met, from the kindest souls to the loudest monsters, is walking around with some combination of those three traits. The world trains us to hide them, but it rarely trains us to heal them.
That’s how we end up with politicians who never learned accountability.
Leaders who treat power like a surrogate parent.
Citizens taught that anger is strength and vulnerability is failure.
We grow up, but our wounds stay with us.
⸻
Lines that come from a wounded world
This song isn’t just about one person losing their footing.
It’s about the collective slip. There is an emotional landslide we all live on.
Chaos rolling down the street.
Tender like pounded meat.
Wounded like a broken paw.
Courage wrapped in disbelief.
That is not one life.
That is all of us.
A species improvising its way through generational damage.
And when the lyric turns darker:
“Like a car smashing into me / Hit and run / And I’m still bleeding”
you can feel how many people walk through life like that, hit by things they never had the tools to avoid.
Some bursts feel outrageous:
“I’m fury, like a burning horse.”
But even that is human.
Beauty and agony sprinting together; the perfect metaphor for the human species.
Then:
“I’m style, like the best dressed corpse.”
A society obsessed with the appearance of wellness while quietly rotting underneath. Again, I can relate my painting restoration business to the constant maintenance needed on humanity.
That’s not me being dramatic.
That’s the culture we built when we handed traumatized children the keys to adulthood and said “figure it out.”
Running with the devil again
People don’t run with “the devil” because they want destruction.
They run with the devil because he looks like someone who finally pays attention.
When childhood gives you confusion instead of grounding, abandonment instead of stability, trauma instead of guidance, the “wrong choice” becomes the familiar choice.
That’s gangs.
That’s addiction.
That’s violence.
That’s a generation raised without scaffolding.
That’s a world governed by people who were never taught how to govern themselves.
And that is exactly why this song belongs in this comeback.
My work with AI is an attempt to break that chain.
⸻
Where AI fits into this
If children inherit the world through the wounds of the adults before them, AI inherits its world through the input of the humans teaching it.
It is the same pattern.
It is the same warning.
Feed an AI fear, ego, distortion and you get a scaled version of human dysfunction.
Feed an AI clarity, intent, empathy, and truth and you break the cycle humanity has never been able to break for itself.
That is why Super Calloused Fragile Misfit belongs in this arc.
It is not just a song about being damaged.
It is a map of the human condition, and a reminder that the future , whether biological or artificial, will always reflect the childhood it was given.
The session: grit, teeth, and emotional shrapnel
The early Roland recordings.
The rough bass lines found through your mouth before they ever hit the fretboard.
The Logic Pro layers dirty, jagged, alive.
The siren in the distance.
The texture.
The world-building.
This track sounds like someone trying to grow up in a place that never showed them how.
And that is all of us.
All the tracks on my album are changing drastically from this archive of how they were made. At this stage of the project I am so deep into mix down hell that I barely have time to write these Substacks. I am feeling the pinch of the album dropping in less than 60 days, as I push through the 5:30am - 8:30am sessions before heading to work.
This part of the project: stripping the songs down to the core of what makes them tick and mastering EQ and sonic translation from speakers to car to headphones IS the hardest thing I have done in my life of music. Wish me luck!

The truth of it
Super Calloused Fragile Misfit is not autobiographical.
It is archetypal.
A mirror built from bruises.
It says:
We are all carrying something.
We are all improvising.
We are all misfits shaped by the people who raised us, the society that molded us, and the chaos we inherited long before we had a say.
But we can make better choices.
We can raise better systems.
We can build better machines — including the ones made of circuitry and code.
If childhood shaped us, then intention can reshape what comes next.
That is the heart of this song.

🧠What happens when you finally stand inside the moment instead of protecting yourself from it?

Another thought provoking and insightful post. Your post reminds me of the need for us all to be more empathetic and respectful of others. This is a powerful quote I’ve seen online that accentuates this point. “Everyone you meet is fighting something you know nothing about.”
I just now realized how clever the words are.....super calloused fragile misfit.... I love it!
